Master's and PhD admission

The Graduate Program in Environmental Sciences presents a single area of concentration in the Environmental Sciences, in which students develop their research under the guidance of an advisor from one of the three research areas

Ecological Systems and Geosciences,
Landscape Management,
Environment and Society.

The Master of Science in PPGCAm

The MsC program consists of a minimum of 35 credits, of which 26 are in the four mandatory courses: 1) Interdisciplinarity and Projects in Environmental Sciences, 2) Fundamentals of Ecology and Environmental Geology, 3) Nature, Society, and Development, and 4) Policies and Instruments of Environmental Management. The remaining credits are completed in optional courses. The students must also pass an eligibility exam that includes an oral presentation and a preliminary version of the dissertation. The MsC in Environmental Science requires the completion of a research project and the defense of the dissertation, which is generally a work of original research that is presented to a scientific committee and later published by the student at the end of their program. Applications for the MsC course are available through an annual public notice published around September. Admittance to the program requires approval in an exam to test knowledge on Environmental Science themes, and analysis of curriculum vitae.

The PhD degree in PPGCAm

The PhD program consists of a minimum of 55 credits, of which 26 are in the four mandatory courses: 1) Interdisciplinarity and Projects in Environmental Sciences, 2) Fundamentals of Ecology and Environmental Geology, 3) Nature, Society, and Development, and 4) Policies and Instruments of Environmental Management. The remaining credits are completed in optional courses. PhD candidates must also pass an eligibility exam that includes an oral presentation and a preliminary version of the thesis. The PhD in Environmental Sciences requires the completion of an original research project and the defense of a doctoral thesis that is presented to a scientific committee and later published by the candidate at the end of their program. Applications for the PhD course are available through an annual public notice published around September. Admittance to the program requires approval in an exam to test knowledge on Environmental Science themes, analysis of curriculum vitae, and presentation and approval of a research proposal analyzed by a scientific committee. Applicants who have already a research grant for their research project can apply for the PhD program at any time throughout the year; in this case, the proposal is evaluated by a scientific committee, with no need to be approved in the subject test.
